Our Story …

We are thrilled to share that we will be participating in Shitbox Rally Spring 2024! This year, all the teams will be driving their vehicles from Bendigo to Townsville.

Our journey into the world of rallies began in mid-2019 when we first applied, fuelled by a sense of adventure and camaraderie. However, the motivation behind our participation took a poignant turn after our initial application. In late 2019, Marcel, Ralf's brother and Andy's close friend, received a devastating diagnosis of a terminal brain tumor. Over the next four years, we stood by Marcel and his family as he fought against this cruel illness. Sadly, Marcel lost his battle here on earth and graduated into heaven on December 28, 2023, coincidentally his favorite number.

Just before Marcel's departure, we received the news that we had been accepted into this year's spring rally, a goal we had pursued for five years. We are incredibly enthusiastic about honoring Marcel's memory as we join the rally to raise funds for cancer research.

Shitbox Rally, now in its 14th year, is the largest community-led fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia. As a requirement, all teams must raise a minimum of $5,000, but many surpass this goal. The Spring 2024 rally aims to raise over $2,000,000.

These funds contribute to Cancer Council, and we take pride in playing our part to support this worthy cause. Fundraising is a challenging aspect, so any donation you can offer is immensely appreciated. Stay updated on our progress through this page and the accompanying blog post.

P.S. If anyone is inclined to donate their "Shitbox" for a noble cause, serving as our chariot in October, we would be delighted to thrash it around some of the worst roads in the country!

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Hi Andrew and Ralf. This will be a great experience for you and all the money is going to a good cause. It looks like it will be a fun drive. You will be meeting the residents of all the small towns along the way. You will also make life long friends with some of them and the participants. I take it that the roads are rough and dusty so I suggest that you keep the pedal to the metal as they say when driving in a rally then on the other hand the car may do better going slow and steady. Andrew just remember when you had your first car the Cortina and went too fast around a corner and wrapped the car around a lamp post. You have always liked to drive fast and you are a good driver however there will be lots of bends in the road and lots of trees along the road so you and Ralf have fun and take care. Mum and I will be thinking of you and Ralf. 🏎⛺️🍔🍟🍕🔦🛠⚙️🔩

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
