Our Story …

G'day legends!

We're Don and Jono, two mates ready to trade in our nappies for a rusty chariot and embark on the Shitbox Rally Spring 2024!

Yep, you heard that right. We're throwing ourselves, and our trusty "shitbox" into the dirt for a cause close to our hearts: FIGHTING CANCER.

This disease has hit us all, from family to mates on the footy field. It's time to tackle it head-on, and what better way than with a hilarious road trip across Australia in a car that wouldn't know a tune-up if it hit it in the muffler?

The Shitbox Rally is all about raising funds for the Cancer Council, and we're aiming to be part of the $2 million+ goal for this Spring rally.

Every dollar count, and your donation, no matter the size, will be our fuel to the finish line.

Why are we doing this?

Well, besides the epic adventure and questionable fashion choices (think high-vis vests and budgy smugglers), it's about making a difference. We want to see a future where cancer doesn't steal loved ones, doesn't disrupt lives, and doesn't leave anyone feeling alone.

So, if you're looking to support a good cause while being entertained by our questionable driving skills and questionable jokes, please consider donating! We'll keep you updated on our journey through this page, so you can witness the "Dadventurers Down Under" unfold in all its glory (and maybe a little bit of dust).

Thanks, legends!

Jono & Don

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Hi Travis I noticed your recent donation to the Cancer Council and wanted to reach out personally. While I appreciate your intention to participate, I feel compelled to express that the small amount felt more dismissive than supportive, especially considering the seriousness of what we are trying to achieve—supporting vital cancer research and patient care. I urge you to reconsider the spirit of your donation. We are working towards a meaningful impact, and every dollar counts, but the approach matters just as much. I hope you can understand where I’m coming from and consider contributing in a way that reflects the gravity of our cause. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Don

🚗💨 Thrilled to share that my mate Jono Wilkin and I are gearing up for the hashtag

#ShitboxRally this October! We'll be driving from Bendigo, VIC to Townsville, QLD in a car worth just $1,500 (repairs included —that's the rule of the rally!), aiming to tackle the dusty roads (check out the route; not many sealed roads out there...) and take on this epic challenge to support the Cancer Council Australia. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 to aid in cancer research and patient support.

🏃‍♂ As a warm-up, we've already started pushing ourselves and participated in the McLaren Vale half marathon last weekend. This was a true test of our endurance, preparing us to overcome any challenge that the hashtag

#ShitboxRally might throw our way!

We're reaching out to our network to ask for your support. Whether it's cheering us on, sharing our journey, or contributing to our fundraising efforts, every bit of help brings us closer to our goal.

Thank you for supporting us in this journey.

hashtag

#ShitboxRally hashtag

#CancerCouncilAustralia hashtag

#Fundraising hashtag

#ChallengeAccepted

🚗💨 Update on Our Fundraising / Shitbox Rally Journey!

A lot has happened since our last update! We’ve found the perfect "shitbox" for the rally—a 1992 Ford Falcon Ute that’s ready to hit the Aussie outback dirt roads from Bendigo, VIC to Townsville, QLD this October.

We’ve also made fantastic progress, raising $4,000 out of our $5,000 goal for Cancer Council Australia!

Huge thanks to our amazing individual donors and incredible sponsors like the great Ashton Valley Fresh (Thanks Joyce Ceravolo) from the hashtag

#AdelaideHills, the iconic Australian brand Budgy Smuggler, Axon Film, and our dedicated mechanic Noarlunga Auto & 4×4 for their fantastic support so far.

Today, I’m reaching out to help us hit that final milestone! We have less than $1,000 left to reach our goal and secure our spot in the rally this October. And to make it even more exciting, Budgy Smuggler is generously donating 2 x $100 vouchers to their online store! Everyone who donates or has already donated will be entered into a raffle to win one of these vouchers. 🎉

Remember, every dollar raised directly funds cancer research!!

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
